Triconex is now a brand name under Schneider Electric, which provides products, systems and services for safety, critical control and turbomachinery applications, as well as hardware devices using TriStation application software. Triconex products are based on Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) industrial safety shutdown technology. Today, Triconex TMR products run on more than 11,500 devices, making Triconex the largest TMR supplier
The history of Triconex was published by Gary L. Wilkinson in a book entitled “The History of Greater Safety”. The company was founded in September 1983 by Jon Wimer in Santa Ana, California, and began operations in March 1984. The business plan was written by Wimer and Peter Pitsker, an automation industry veteran and Stanford graduate. They presented plans for a system based on TMR (Triple Modular Redundancy) that will improve the safety and reliability of industrial applications. Their target customers are petrochemicals *, such as Exxon, Shell, Chevron and BP.
