Driven by new energy transmission and large-scale energy storage, the development of DC power grids in countries around the world is unstoppable. As the core components of key equipment of DC backbone network such as MMC, DC circuit breaker, DC transformer and DC energy consuming device, high-voltage and large-capacity power semiconductor device is the frontier topic of academic research and the focus of industrial application. IGBT has the advantages of low driving power, simple driving circuit, fast switching speed, high voltage and high current, and has been widely used in the flexible DC power grid. In fact, despite the outstanding advantages of IGBT, compared with current-type devices, there are still problems such as large on-state voltage drop, low reliability and high manufacturing cost, and there is a lot of room for improvement. Especially in high-voltage large-capacity applications, the number of switching devices used is very large, and if these characteristics can be improved to further improve efficiency and reliability, and reduce costs, it will have great attraction and application prospects. 5SHY4045L0001 While breaking through the new technology of IGCT devices, the research team systematically analyzed and forecast the application prospects of IGCT devices in DC power grids, synchronously developed a series of key equipment, and has been applied in demonstration projects and power grid test platforms. The key equipment in the current DC power grid (such as MMC, DC circuit breaker, DC transformer, DC energy-consuming device, etc.) has many new characteristics compared with the power electronic equipment in the AC power grid, which provides an opportunity for the application of IGCT. Combining the intrinsic characteristics of these key devices, the research team proposed an innovative scheme based on IGCT, and systematically demonstrated its feasibility and technical and economic advantages. The analysis shows that the new type of equipment based on IGCT has outstanding advantages in safety and explosion protection, fault handling, conversion efficiency, power density, manufacturing cost and reliability, which makes its application in DC power grid have great potential. In the Zhuhai “Internet +” smart energy demonstration project put into operation in December 2018, the 10kV/10MW MMC of Jishan Converter station applied the IGCT cross-clamping scheme proposed by the research team, which is the first appearance of domestic IGCT devices in the flexible DC transmission converter valve. It has been running stably for more than one year, providing valuable data and experience for the research and improvement of IGCT device characteristics. The ±375V solid-state DC circuit breaker developed based on IGCT-Plus is applied in the AC-DC hybrid power distribution network project under construction in Dongguan, which realizes the first application of domestic IGCT-Plus device in solid-state DC circuit breaker.
