The MVME162-213 is a modular piece of hardware produced by Motorola Computer Group and belongs to the MVME162-LX family. Built on the VMEbus standard, the product features superior hardware, cost performance, and support for open computing principles, including modularity, scalability, portability, and interoperability.

The MVME162-213 is equipped with the MC68040 enhanced 32-bit microprocessor with 8KB cache and MMU (memory management unit), or you can choose the MC68LC040 enhanced 32-bit microprocessor. In addition, it supports the master/slave interface between the VMEchip2 A32/D64 VMEbus and the system controller, with high performance DMA (Direct memory access) capabilities, support for VMEbus D64 and local bus memory burst cycles.

On the storage side, the MVME162-213 offers 4, 8, 16, or 32MB of shared DRAM, supports parity or error checking and correction (ECC), and can be scaled up to 64MB with an extended sandwich. In addition, there is 128KB of SRAM with backup battery for flash user specified requirements for the onboard monitor/debugger, as well as 8K x 8 NVRAM and clock backup battery.

In terms of I/O, the MVME162-213 is equipped with four serial communication ports, configured as EIA-232 2D DTE, and two industrial packaging ports. In addition, there are six 32-bit timers (four without VMEbus) and watchdog timers, as well as optional 32-bit Ethernet transceiver interface Local Bus DMA and SCSI bus interface Burst DMA.

The MVME162-213 also has a four-level requester and a seven-level interrupter, as well as a seven-level interrupt handler for VMEbus. In addition, it supports remote reset/abort/status control functions, as well as on-board debuggers and diagnostic firmware.
