A reflective memory board is a special type of shared memory system, and the PCI-5565-PIORC is designed to enable multiple independent computers to share a common data set. Each subsystem maintains an independent backup of the entire shared memory in the reflected memory network, with full and unrestricted access and the ability to modify local data sets at extremely high local memory write speeds.

When data is written to a locally reflected memory backup, high-speed logical synchronization transfers it to the next node in the ring network. Each subsequent node writes this new data to a local backup and then sends it to the next node in the ring network. When the information returns to the original node, it is removed from the network.

In a reflective memory system, all computers can obtain the same copy of data in a few microseconds, and PCI-5565-PIORC enables real-time sharing of data. This system allows local processors to read this data at any time without having to connect to a network, and each computer always has an up-to-date local backup of the shared memory set.

The reflected memory board (node) includes local memory, embedded interfaces, and arbitration logic that provides access between the host and the reflected memory. The board can be physically installed or connected to a variety of computer buses, including VME, PCI/PCI-X, CompactPCI, PCI Express, or other standard/specialized systems capable of integrating PMC slots.
