The REF601 is used as a digital feeder protection device to protect and control utility and industrial power systems

The REF601 Feeder protection and measurement and control device is a dedicated feeder protection and measurement and control device designed to protect and control utility and industrial power systems in primary and secondary distribution networks. The REF601 is a member of the 605 product family of ABB’s Relion? product family as a protective measurement and control device.

Compared to its peers, the device has excellent performance and availability, offering an excellent configuration of protection, monitoring and control functionality.

The REF601 Feeder Protection and measurement and control unit provides primary protection for overhead and cable feeders in distribution and secondary distribution networks. In addition, the inrush current stabilization function allows the device to be used as the main protection for distribution transformers.

As an alternative to conventional current transformers, this type of device has a Rogowski current sensor version that helps reduce medium voltage switchgear size, improve performance, and make it more standardized.

The REF601 supports communication between MODBUS RTU and IEC 60870-5-103 over a two-wire RS485.
