The VMIVME-5550 is a reflective memory interface module consisting of a converter board and a CPU module that was originally produced by General Electric’s Automated Industrial Products division before being acquired and continued in production by Abaco Systems. However, after the company’s conversion, the VMIC module series has been discontinued.

The VMIVME-5550 module is designed to share and transfer up to 16 bits of data at speeds of up to 20 megabytes per second via separate VMEbus system nodes. The module can be configured with up to 256 kilobytes, or up to 4 megabytes of on-board synchronous dynamic random access memory (SDRAM), which provides the module with fast, high-quality read access time to the stored data.

In terms of data transfer, the VMIVME-5550 module is designed to be software-transparent, which means that no additional input and/or output overhead is required during data transfer between nodes, thus increasing the efficiency and speed of data transfer.

In addition, the VMIVME-5550 module has the ability to handle up to 16 nodes in multiple points, and this function requires absolutely no processor overhead or involvement at runtime, further enhancing the efficiency and performance of the module.
